Mumbai: A life-changing surgery at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central, helped a 16-year-old girl overcome severe scoliosis, a spinal deformity that causes the spine to curve abnormally.

The young patient arrived at Wockhardt Hospitals struggling with both physical pain and emotional distress. Her spine was curved from the chest to the lower back, involving 12 vertebrae – nearly her entire spinal column.

Doctors warned that without surgical correction, her condition could lead to worsening posture, discomfort, and breathing difficulties as she grew older.

Scoliosis Surgery Restores Confidence and Mobility

Under the expertise of Dr Mazda Turel, Consultant Brain and Spine Surgeon, the hospital performed a complex corrective spinal surgery. Surgeons placed precision-guided screws and rods to realign each vertebra, gradually straightening the spine and restoring the body’s natural balance.

Within three days, the patient stood upright with renewed confidence. “I look taller!” she said joyfully, while her mother, witnessing the transformation, expressed immense gratitude and relief.

Timely Scoliosis Treatment Ensures Long-Term Recovery

The recovery journey wasn’t without its challenges, yet the teenager’s optimism shone through. A week later, she humorously described her first pain-free bathroom visit as her “greatest relief.”

Commenting on the surgery, Dr. Turel noted, “Correcting scoliosis isn’t just about straightening the spine – it’s about restoring a young person’s confidence and allowing them to live without self-consciousness.”

Ten days after the surgery, she was discharged – standing tall and smiling proudly. Her case underscores how early diagnosis and expert surgical intervention can transform the lives of patients living with scoliosis.
